Title: Subellipticity and Several Complex Variables

Speaker: Gian Maria Dall’Ara

Bio: Gian Maria Dall’Ara is a researcher of the “Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica”. He is based in Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa, Italy).

He did his undergraduate studies in Padua, where he was a student both at the University of Padua and at the excellence institute “Scuola Galileiana di Studi Superiori”. He got his PhD from Scuola Normale Superiore under the supervision of Fulvio Ricci, and later he has been a post-doc at the universities of Vienna and Birmingham (in the latter, as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow).

His research is in complex and harmonic analysis, with a broad interest on analysis in “degenerate” settings, e.g., the dbar-Neumann problem on weakly pseudoconvex domain, spectral multipliers of Baouendi-Grushin operators, Bergman (resp. Szegö) projections on singular domains (resp. Levi flat CR structures) etc.

Abstract:  I will discuss the problem of establishing subelliptic estimates for the dbar-Neumann Laplacian on smooth pseudoconvex domains. The focus will be on a new approach to this problem, that I recently devised together with S. Mongodi (University Milano-Bicocca). At the heart of the method there is an analogy with Schrödinger operators and a new uncertainty principle for the dbar operator inspired by this analogy. I will also comment on the (many) open problems.
