The Chemistry Science Division of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is calling for proposals for special projects about chemistry (Science and Technology Activity Projects).

Priority Areas and What to Fund:

1. Special Projects (Science and Technology Activity Projects) are used to fund activities related to the development of the NSFC, including strategic and management research, academic exchange activities, scientific communication, and platform development.
2. The Special Projects include the following three types for this time:
   1. Strategic and Management Research on the Development of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 化学化工相关领域学科发展战略与管理研究
   2. Seminars Beneficial to the Development of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 对化学化工学科发展有益的专题研讨会议
   3. Scientific Communication and Popular Science Activities that Positively Promote the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 对化学化工学科领域发展发挥正向宣传作用的科学传播和科普活动

Proposal Requirements for Each Type of Special Projects:

1. Strategic and Management Research should include development background, development patterns and trends, goals, current status, optimization of layout, interdisciplinary integration and priority funding areas, core scientific issues, organizational support and policy measures.
2. Seminars should include background and significance, challenges and opportunities, research goals, timeline, participation scope and scale, potential impact, feasibility analysis, and expected outcomes.
3. Scientific Communications should include necessity and demand, existing problems and solutions, effective communication methods, and impact on scientific fund management.

The project topic should align with the top-level design, strategic planning, and management needs of the Chemical Sciences Division. The expected outcomes of the scientific activities must include research reports, activity summaries, publications, software, or other deliverables related to the theme of the activity. If the project receives funding, these outcomes will be key criteria for the final evaluation and review of the project.

Project Period: The research duration in the application should be filled out as: January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025.

Eligibility:

1. Experience in undertaking basic research projects or other basic research activities (the applicant should be the PI for at least 1 NSFC research project).
2. Holding a title of associate professor and above or holding a doctoral degree.

Quota Requirements:

1. This special project is not included in the total of two projects that senior professional technical position (title)/principal research scientist personnel can apply for and undertake.
2. Applicants may only apply for one special project in the same year.
3. The PI who received funding for special projects in the previous year are not eligible.

Before completing the application, applicants should carefully read the <Management Measures for Special Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation>,  and the <2024 National Natural Science Foundation Project Guidelines>,  and the relevant content of this notice. Applications that do not meet the requirements of the management measures, project guidelines, and this announcement will not be accepted.
