Building Connections: A Recap of the 2023 CSCC Conference

CSCC Student Poster Exhibit

In the afternoon, a student poster exhibit showcased the work of young scholars, while discussions and presentations emphasized interdisciplinary approaches to the complex issues surrounding contemporary China. To name a few, Weijia Zhang, a senior student majoring in Environmental Policy, presented her research work on the soil population in China and pathways to understand the driving force using the Narrative Policy Framework (NPF). Weijia’s project, titled “Soil pollution in China: problems and policy solutions,”shed light on the driving forces of government response to environment problems in China’s rapid urbanization. Her insightful analysis, supported by compelling visual aids and data, explored China’s policy process of soil pollution law. Lingyu He, an iMEP student, explored the strategic commodification of nature and culture as means of sustainable development in Baiyu County in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, refelcting a significant effort to understand how local communities leverage their natural and cultural resources to promote economic growth while preserving their unique environment and heritage. Her work helps understand the innovative strategies employed in regions like Baiyu County to strike a balance between development and sustainability, providing valuable insights into the intersection of environmental conservation and economic progress in China’s diverse landscapes.
