Abstract:

Dementia (认知症) is abnormal brain degeneration that leads to changes in a person’s ability to think, speak, socialize and take part in normal daily activities. Currently, dementia has been one of leading cause of death and the major causes of disability and dependency among older people globally, posing a substantial healthcare burden on both the national healthcare system and millions of households. The advancement of technologies holds promising solutions to care for older people with dementia (PwDs), with the potential of reducing caregiving burdens, enhancing the quality of care, and improving overall efficiency. In this talk, I will present a series of technological evaluation studies focused on collaborative dementia care. Drawing on a human-centered perspective, I will dissect the gap between practical dementia care and technology-mediated care, and draw on these results to discuss implications for designing future technologies for dementia care and interventions.
