2022 FSTA Recipients

Annemieke van den Dool

Assistant Professor of Environmental Policy

Received an FSTA award to support her travel to the International Public Policy Association, International Workshops on Public Policy in Budapest, Hungary, at which she will organize and co-chair a workshop entitled “Policy Process Theories in Authoritarian Settings”. She has a Ph.D. in law from the University of Amsterdam; and she joined DKU in 2019.

Benjamin Bacon

Associate Professor of Media and Arts

Received an FSTA award to support his project “Formation 1: Samskara”, which is to develop a performative, behavioral system and space that explores new ideas in human/machine relationship and cohabitation scenarios. He has an M.F.A. from Parsons School of Design; and he joined DKU in 2020.

Chenkai Wu

Assistant Professor of Global Health

Received an FSTA award to support his project “Patterns and Health Effects of Polypharmacy and Dietary Supplements Used among Chinese Older Adults”, which will research on the patterns and health effects of polypharmacy and dietary supplement use and attitudes towards deprescribing among Chinese older adults. He has a Ph.D. in Public Health from Oregon State University; and he joined DKU in 2018.

Claudia Nisa

Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science

Received an FSTA award to support a project entitled “Building leadership with emotional intelligence for emergency preparedness and response: Protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial in Mozambique”, in which she will conduct field research in Mozambique aiming at initiating a long-term collaboration with the World Health Organization in healthcare leadership training. She has a PhD in Social Policy from the London School of Economics; and she joined DKU in 2021.

Daniel Lim

Associate Professor of Philosophy

Received an FSTA award to support his travel to the 23rd Biennial International Workshop-Conference on Teaching Philosophy in Otterbein University, U.S., at which he will be giving a presentation titled “Philosophy Through Computer Science”. Moreover, he will be presenting his ideas from his forthcoming book: Philosophy Through Computer Science (Routledge). Prof. Lim has a Ph.D. in history and philosophy of science from the University of Cambridge; and he joined DKU in 2018.

Domna Kotsifaki

Assistant Professor of Physics

Received an FSTA award to support her project entitled “Optically Locomotion Control of Living Microrobots with Nondiffracting Light”, which will explore a novel approach in drug delivery systems with bio-micromotors. Prof. Kotsifaki has a Ph.D. in Physics from the National Technical University of Athens; and she joined DKU in 2022.

Kim Hunter-Gordon

Assistant Professor of Chinese and Performance Studies

Received an FSTA award to support his travel to the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR) annual conference in Reykjavik, Iceland. He will be giving a presentation namely “Peripheries of Elegance: Kunqu and Public Theatre in Qing Dynasty Suzhou”, which shares cutting edge historical research on Kunqu. Prof. Hunter-Gordon has a Ph.D. from Royal Holloway, University of London; and he joined DKU in 2019.Dr. Xu has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison ; he joined DKU in 2019.

Kristinn Mar

Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science

Received an FSTA award to support his project entitled “Can Mini publics Cut Through or Limit Motivated Reasoning?”, which will extend his previous research on whether mini publics are able to avoid or limit motivated reasoning, compared to the government or an environmental NGO. Prof. Mar has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and he joined DKU in 2021.

Luyao Zhang

Assistant Professor of Economics

Received an FSTA award to support her travel to the 7th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting on Economic Science in Lindau (Germany), where she will be giving a presentation namely “Trust Mechanism Design: Blockchain for Social Good”. Prof. Zhang has a PhD in Economics from the Ohio State University; and she joined DKU in 2020.

Weijing (Vivian) Xu

Assistant Professor of Media and Arts

Received an FSTA award to support her project entitled “Treatise – A Sericulture Toolkit for the 21st Century” which will contribute to her work in an artist book and technical toolkit that explores the biological, technological, agricultural, and material perspectives of the sericulture process. Prof. Xu has an M.F.A. in design and technology from the Parsons New School for Design, New York; and she joined DKU in 2020.

Xin Tong

Assistant Professor of Computation and Design

Received an FSTA award to support her project entitled “Augmented Reality-based Tangible User Interface for Improving Learning Working Memory, Attention, and Frustration Tolerance of Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)”, which is to investigate how AR-TUI can support ADHD children to improve their working memory and attention on basic learning activities and behaviors. Prof. Tong has a Ph.D. from the School of Interactive Arts and Technology, Simon Fraser University; and she joined DKU in 2021.

Yachao Sun

Assistant Professor of English Language

Received an FSTA award to support his project entitled “Improving Student Feedback Literacy Through Translingual Practices”, which will contribute to the feedback literacy scholarship by discussing how translingual practices can help enhance students’ feedback literacy in academic writing. Prof. Sun has a Ph.D. in Second Language Studies from Purdue University; and he joined DKU in 2020.
