Daniel M. Tsai is the chairman of Fubon Bank (Hong Kong). Originated in 1961 when Fubon Insurance was founded, Fubon Group offers the most comprehensive financial services in Taiwan, and is also involved in property development, telecommunications and media services, e-commerce, the cultural and creative sector, and charitable activities. Group members Fubon Financial Holdings, Taiwan Mobile, and Momo.com Inc. are TWSE-listed companies and hold leading positions in their respective fields.

Mr. Tsai joined the Fubon Group in 1981, and has managed several different financial services businesses during his 37-year tenure. He is now the vice chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, and has pursued a strategy focused on building a balanced network of subsidiaries that now includes Taipei Fubon Bank, Fubon Bank (China), Fubon Bank (Hong Kong), Fubon Insurance, Fubon Life and Fubon Securities. They are all ranked among the top companies in their sector and make Fubon the most comprehensive financial institution as well as the most profitable financial holding company in Taiwan.

Mr. Tsai also involved in the telecommunications and cable TV sector by holding the position as chairman of Taiwan Mobile, a leading convergent services provider in Taiwan involved in mobile communication, cable television, fixed network, and digital content. Particular emphasis has been put on creating new innovative services and content with digital technology to expand the company’s digital convergence base and improve people’s lives. Mr. Tsai believes that such innovative technologies as cloud computing, the Internet of Things and big data will be important drivers of global economic growth in the future and propel Taiwan Mobile into the digital convergence era.

Institutional Investor magazine named Mr. Tsai as the “Best CEO in Taiwan” in 2003. Euromoney honored him in 2009 with “Outstanding Contribution to Greater China Financial Services” for his efforts to integrate financial services in the region. He has received “Asian Corporate Director Recognition Award” from Corporate Governance Asia for seven consecutive years beginning in 2010, and was recognized as one of “Taiwan Top 50 Best-Performing CEOs” by Harvard Business Review in 2016.

Mr. Tsai graduated from National Taiwan University in 1978, and received his master’s degree in law from Georgetown University in 1979. He has served on the USC Board of Trustees since April 2012, the Asia Business Council Board of Trustees since March 2013, and the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society’s Board of Trustees since 2014, and has become DKU Advisory Board member since 2017.
